How Knife Gate Valve Work?
Step 1: Gate in Open Position
When the valve is open full, the knife-shaped gate is raised completely out of the way. This enables it to flow freely at low pressure drop, thus making it suitable for slurry and bulk material handling systems.
Step 2: Movement of the gate (Closing Action)
As the actuator (manual, pneumatic, electric or hydraulic) is operated, the gate is initiated to start descending.
Step 3: Cutting Through Media
The leading edge of the gate is sharp, cutting through thick fluids, fibers and suspended solids that would otherwise block traditional valves.
Step 4: Seating and Sealing
When completely closed, the gate closes against the valve seat, creating a tight seal. Depending on the design: On one side Unidirectional valves close against the pressure. Bi-directional valves are good in both directions.
Step 5: Complete Flow Isolation
The valve closes to a full shut-off, avoiding leakage even in process environments that are demanding.
